HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. It protects the personal health information of individuals. HIPAA protection primarily pertains to the electronic transmittal of health information, but also can include patient records, posted information, and patient health information discussed between two providers.
It is permissible to share an individual’s information when relaying information to another health care provider if the information is necessary in the treatment of that patient. The individuals responsible for privacy and security are the doctors of this practice.
All patients have a right to their own health information. You have the right to request that we restrict how protected health information about you is used or disclosed for treatment, payment or health care operations.
Your protected health information may be used to communicate with other (your) health care providers: general dentist, specialist dental provider, medical physician and/or nurse provider about your medical and/or dental condition which will allow our office to provide the best care possible.
Please contact our office if you have any questions regarding HIPAA and how it may affect you.
